Mount Diablo State Park contains Rock City and other distinctive rock features. The broad name Mount Diablo is not a sufficient plan for a climbing outing. Identify the exact area, the managing authority, and the permitted approach before asking friends to meet there.
Do not mix up similarly named places
Rock City within Mount Diablo State Park is not Castle Rock State Park in the Santa Cruz Mountains. Castle Rock Regional Recreation Area is another separate place. An access rule or route description for one should never be applied to another simply because a search result uses similar wording.
Treat conditions as a separate decision
Heat, weather, daylight, fire-related restrictions, and local closures can all change what makes sense on a given day. Use the park’s current notices and appropriate weather information. This page does not establish that any specific formation is open for climbing today or that an anchor is usable.
