Start with the trip you will repeat

The Bay Area is connected on a map and much less predictable in a calendar. Use these regional guides to narrow your options, then compare the individual venue pages. We group Mountain View with the Peninsula for browsing and Sunnyvale with the South Bay; these are practical editorial groupings, not municipal boundaries.

Use a local base, then branch out

An ordinary gym session and an outdoor day need different preparation. A local base can help you learn the routine, meet partners, and get instruction before adding longer trips. There is no requirement to move outside or to pursue a particular grade. Plenty of satisfying climbing lives entirely indoors.
